One of my favorite artistic expressions is in the form of a music album. I listen to absolutely every genre if I have the right context for it. So, I'm asking all of you: What is your favorite music album and why? Context is important. I think you need to be able to set the right tone for a recommendation or it won't come across as intended (that's my psychology training in action lol). I'll give you a few of mine to start.
Sounds of Salvation - Cassino; my go-to hot weather album. This is a folk group that spent a lot of time in Nashville working with their sound, and what comes out of it is a contemplative, complex, energetic acoustic album that hits all the right notes. Songs to start with: The Old Year, The Gin War
IGOR - Tyler, The Creator; absolutely rich album about heartbreak and the emotions that come with being alone after a relationship. It sounds cliche, like this has been done a thousand times before, but Tyler infuses his confused spirit into every track, and the music takes you on a journey through his psyche, making for a cathartic, unique experience. Songs to start with: (You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't listen to the album front to back, but if you HAVE to choose a song): A BOY IS A GUN*. WHAT'S GOOD
III - Bad Books; the duo, Kevin Devine and Manchester Orchestra's Andy Hull, have been a force in the singer-songwriter genre for at least a decade. Their lyrical styles could not be more different, but III fuses them together to search for the big question of why we're all here. What does this all mean and why are we all so desperate to prove something? They each question it in their own, incredibly beautiful way in III. Songs to listen to: Wheel Well, UFO
Swimming - Mac Miller; the last album before Mac tragically passed from a drug overdose, it touches upon a desire to get better, and the will to look at the world through a positive lens. He clearly struggled with living, but he created an album that I believe everybody in their 20-30s can relate to. Songs to start with: Small Worlds, Wings, 2009
What are some of your recommendations?
